The human digestive system is home to trillions of microbes, which play a vital role in maintaining our health. These microbes help break down food, synthesise vitamins and minerals, and protect us from harmful pathogens. In recent years, scientists have begun to investigate the role of the gut microbiome in various diseases and conditions.
The AMiLi BIO & ME Gut Microbiome Test is a new diagnostic tool that can help identify imbalances in the gut microbial community. The test involves collecting a stool sample, which is then analysed for the presence of specific microbial species. The AMiLi Gut Microbiome Test results can provide valuable insights into gut health and may help guide treatment decisions.
What Is the Gut Microbiome?
The gut microbiome is the name given to the collection of microbes that live in our digestive system. These microbes are essential for our health, playing a role in everything from digesting food to boosting our immune system. In recent years, the gut microbiome has come under increasing scrutiny from scientists, as it is now believed to play a role in a wide range of chronic illnesses. While more research is needed to fully understand the complex relationship between the gut microbiome and human health, there is no doubt that these tiny creatures play a vital role in our well-being.
How Does the Gut Microbiome Influence Your Health?
The gut microbiome is the community of trillions of microorganisms that reside in the gastrointestinal tract.
This community is integral to your gut and overall health, as it influences everything from metabolism and nutrient absorption to immune function and barriers against pathogens. An imbalance of gut microbes has been linked with various gastrointestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and even obesity.
In addition, the gut microbiome plays a role in mental health, as it can impact levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters. So, while you may be embarrassed to talk about your gut health, it is not surprising that researchers are exploring ways to modulate the microbiome in order to improve health.
How Do You Know if You Have an Imbalance of Gut Bacteria?
The good news is that some telltale signs can indicate an imbalance of gut bacteria. One of the most common signs is bloating after eating. This is because unhealthy gut bacteria produce gas as they break down food. Other common symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, and fatigue. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms on a regular basis, it is a good idea to consult with a doctor or medical professional. They will be able to perform tests to determine if you have an imbalance of gut bacteria and recommend a course of treatment.
Why Should I Get My Gut Microbiome Tested?
The human gut is home to trillions of bacteria, many of which are essential for our health. Unfortunately, the delicate balance of gut bacteria can be easily disturbed, leading to a host of problems, including digestive issues, fatigue, and even anxiety and depression.
One way to keep track of your gut health is to get your microbiome tested. This simple test can give you a detailed report on the types of bacteria present in your gut and their relative abundance. Armed with this information, you can make dietary and lifestyle changes that will help to encourage the growth of healthy bacteria and restore balance to your system.
In addition, regular microbiome testing can help you identify potential problems early and take steps to prevent them from becoming serious health concerns. Some people complain of stomach upsets such as diarrhoea or constipation and may consider investigative procedures such as a colonoscopy to locate the cause. However, a colonoscopy may not be able to present a conclusive reason all the time. As such, a stool test could be the key to finding out what your gut microbiome levels are and recommend a suitablepersonalisedtreatment of probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics to address your gut concerns.
So, if you’re looking for a way to boost your overall health and well-being, consider getting your microbiome tested.
What Is the Difference Between Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Postbiotics?
Probiotics are live microorganisms (usually bacteria) similar to the microbes already found in a person’s gastrointestinal tract. They are available in supplement form and found in some fermented foods, such as yoghurt and sauerkraut. Probiotics may offer health benefits, such as better digestion and a more robust immune system.
Prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients that promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. They are found naturally in a variety of foods, including chicory root, garlic, onion, banana, and asparagus. They are also available in supplement form. Prebiotics function as fuel for probiotics.
Postbiotics refer to the beneficial compounds produced by probiotics during fermentation. These substances include short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, which are essential for improving health.
While probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics all have individual benefits, they work best when used together. When combined, these three elements can help promote a healthy gut microbiome.
How Do I Fix My Gut Microbiome?
The first step in fixing your gut microbiome is identifying the foods causing inflammation. Common culprits include gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, and artificial additives. Once you have removed these foods from your diet, you can begin to add probiotic-rich foods such as yoghurt, kimchi, sauerkraut, and miso soup.
You can also take a probiotic supplement to help ensure that you are getting enough of the beneficial bacteria. In addition to making dietary changes, you can also support your gut health by exercising regularly and managing stress levels. By taking these steps, you can help restore your gut microbiome balance and improve your overall health.
What Foods Repair the Gut Microbiome?
Many foods can help repair the gut microbiome. Probiotic-rich foods like yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi can help replenish good bacteria in the gut.
Prebiotic foods like onions, garlic, bananas, and oats feed the good bacteria, helping them to thrive. In addition, fermented foods like tempeh and miso provide beneficial enzymes that support digestion.
Finally, bone broth is rich in collagen and other nutrients that can help to heal the gut lining. Including a variety of these foods in your diet can help support a healthy gut microbiome.
How Long Does It Take to Repopulate the Gut With Good Bacteria?
Fortunately, the gut is very good at bouncing back from disruptions. Studies have shown that it only takes a few days for the gut to begin repopulating with good bacteria after a microbial disturbance. However, it can take weeks or even months to fully restore the microbiome’s balance. Therefore, it is important to be patient and give your gut time to recover after a disruption. With a bit of time and care, your gut will be back to its happy, healthy self in no time.
For best results, patients should consult with a doctor or a qualified probiotic specialist to develop a tailored plan for replenishing their gut flora.
Restoring the gut microbiome to its full strength and diversity with patience and care is possible.
How Is a Gut Microbiome Test Carried Out?
The AMiLi BIO & ME gut microbiome test is a non-invasive stool test that requires only a single stool sample. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. The lab will then identify the different types of bacteria present in the sample and provide a report back to the patient. This test can help guide treatment plans for conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. Results are typically available within two weeks.
The AMiLi BIO & ME gut microbiome test is relatively new and is not yet widely available. However, it has shown promising results in early studies and may become more commonly used in the future.
At G&L Surgical Clinic, our team offers the AMiLi BIO & ME gut microbiome testing to our patients. This type of testing helps to provide individuals with information about the health of their gastrointestinal tract.

In addition, your test results can reveal more than 20 reports of biomarkers and health indicators that cover these three health pillars. The findings can serve as a preventative test, possibly picking up on similar microbiome patterns seen in colorectal cancer patients.
Gut Health Supplement: AMiLi Probiotics
Based on your results, you might be advised to consider AMiLi Probiotics, a gut health supplement designed to boost your gut health. With five different strains available, a specific strain will be recommended based on your individual needs.
These probiotics are ideally taken over a minimum of three months to see improvements. Some minor side effects such as flatulence or bloating may occur within the first week due to the sudden replenishment of gut bacteria. These probiotics are also recommended to be taken in conjunction with antibiotics to minimise the negative effects of antibiotics on the gut.
However, it’s recommended to seek advice from a healthcare provider before starting the probiotics if you’re pregnant or on gastro or anti-reflux medications.
How Much Does a Gut Microbiome Test Cost in Singapore?
A gut microbiome test costs around $250 to $500 in Singapore. This cost includes consultation, testing, and a follow-up. The gut microbiome test is a simple stool test that is non-invasive, and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
The test will look at the different types of bacteria in your gut and determine if there is an imbalance. If there is an imbalance, we will work with you to create a plan to restore balance.

Dr Ganesh is a patient and friendly doctor. I went to him for a scope as my stomach started feeling bloated all the time and I read that this could be something serious.
Because it’s the first time I am doing a gastroscopy and colonoscopy, I had plenty of questions to ask but I could feel his experience as he went through the do’s and don’ts.
My scope went painless and thanks to the G&L team, I understood that my insurance can be used so the procedure was cashless too.
As it turns out, I had stomach ulcers, which I have suspected for some time but because it was not too serious yet, Dr Ganesh suggests that I can avoid surgery for the time being. I followed his advice and medication and this is now 3 weeks after the scope and I do not have any discomfort.
Thank you Dr Ganesh and the team at G&L Surgical!

Dr Ganesh is one the friendliest doctors that I have spoken with. He’s very friendly and patient and always seems to have a very calm disposure. When I had to see him for scopes, the entire process was smooth and simple. I felt very assured and comforted after my consultation and treatment. The staff are also really nice and attentive, ready to ask if I need any help.
They also gave clear instructions and planned the procedure in detail so I simply had to show on the day of the procedure and everything is ready.
Thank you to Jiaxin, Ann and Angeline for being such lovely angels.

I had a great experience with Dr Ganesh. His explanation of the scope procedure was easy for me and my dad to understand. My dad is in his 60s and couldn’t speak English well. Surprisingly, Dr Ganesh could explain some of the points in Chinese and my Dad was able to understand it. His staff was also on standby throughout the consultation to help us with the translation which I greatly appreciated.
Thanks to his team, my dad had a smooth scope and all is great. Thank you to G&L team!
